History

Szczecin University Main Library came into existence in 1985 together with setting up of Szczecin University. The US Main Library is a merger of Higher Teacher Education School Library (1976 - ) and the Library of Economic-Engineering Faculty, Szczecin Technical University. It also took over the collections of the following libraries that were closed down due to socio-economic changes in Poland: that of West-Pomeranian Institute, of Ideological Education Regional Centre in Szczecin, of the Academy of Social Sciences in Warsaw and magazines in micro form from the Information Centre of Polish Academy of Sciences in Rembertów.

The Library collection numbers over 1 million units. It is continuously and systematically supplemented with the latest publications. They are acquired in accordance with different fields of study and conducted research. The subjects include: pedagogy, psychology, history, sociology, political science, religious studies, philosophy, culture, linguistics, library studies, oceanography, physical education, sport, law, public administration, mathematics, economics, conservation of nature, Pomeranian studies and related sciences.
